AP Scores Are Here: CONGRATULATIONS, Class of 2009!

Posted in General on 21.07.09

I just received the AP scores, and Mr. Widness and I could not be prouder!  Thanks for writing all those timed writings even when you dreaded coming to class on Monday mornings. Thanks for typing all those precis even when you wondered if it really helped build your skills. Most of all, thanks for continuing to smile even when you were ready to throw something at me.

Just for the record, I am really happy with the 3s, 4s, and 5s, but I am especially proud of some of the students who did not technically pass the exam because I know how hard they worked and how resilient they were when it would have been so much easier for them to give up or take an easier or less demanding course.

5s – 22 (16% of KMHS students)
4s – 46 (33%)
3s – 55 (39%)
2s – 15 (11%)
1s – 3   (2%)

If you have not received your scores, please send me a message and I'll tell you what you made.

I'm going to miss you next year!

Summer Reading Extra Credit Due Wednesday!

Posted in General on 11.07.09

Extra credit If you would like to receive 5 points extra credit on your first summer reading assignment, please email the assignment to me by midnight on Wednesday, July 15th. Please see the Summer Reading assignment for more information.  I will respond to all emails within 24 hours. If you submit an assignment and I do not respond, please email me again or send a facebook message.

Please remember to format your paper according to MLA. (See MLA Stylesheet on left menu bar.) Also, do not use the word "novel" in referring to the book that you read. By definition, a novel is a work of fiction. All of the summer reading works are nonfiction. Just call them "books"!

I hope you are enjoying your summer! Please read the summer reading assignment carefully. You have the chance to add 5 points extra credit to
each of your assignments if you submit them early. Most importantly, if

you work with a group to complete the assignment for the second book,
you are allowed to work with students who may be in different AP
English Language classes and who may take the course in different
semesters.

Due Date for extra credit on Angela's Ashes or Black Boy assignment: July 15th

Due Date for for extra credit on 2nd book: August 1st
