As you finish your problem/solution paper that is due Tuesday, you might want to take a look at the attached proofreading sheet. If you check each item on the form and make the corrections on your paper, you could make a much higher grade. This paper is a handout I usually distribute in class on the day the paper is due. Since I am giving it to you early (before class), please make the corrections on the computer before you print out your final paper. (Ignore the sections where I tell you to make the corrections in blue or black ink.)
Remember that your papers are due at the beginning of the period on Tuesday. You must also submit your paper to Turnitin.com by the beginning of class on Tuesday.
Don’t forget: If you make an "A" on this paper, you will not have to write the Debate paper that is due later in the semester!
Panel Presentations will take place October 20th – Oct. 30th
Objective: Each panel of students will present BOTH sides of an important issue to the class. The main objective of the panel is to INFORM and DISCUSS.
Panel: Each panel will be composed of four students. Students may select their own panel members. Since all panel members will share the same grade for each assignment, do not place yourself in a group with someone who goofs off and/or sits back and lets everyone else do all of the work.
Presentation Length: Each presentation will last 15-20 minutes (excluding the question/answer period).
Topic: Panels will select their own topics and submit them for teacher approval. No panel may duplicate a topic. Topics should be controversial, scholarly, appropriate for presentation in an AP class, and narrowed sufficiently in order to provide depth during the presentation. Research the topic first to make sure there is sufficient information on both sides of your issue before selecting it.

Tuesday, Sept 30th – 6:30 p.m. in theatre
During our long class period during the Exit Exam testing for Juniors, we will watch the 1967 movie of Capote’s masterpiece. Because the movie is rated "R," you will only be allowed to watch it if you receive permission from your parents/guardians.
If you would like to watch the movie, please print the permission form provided below and have your parents sign it. You must return the signed form to me by Wednesday. If you would prefer not to watch the movie (Remember: it’s spooky!), you can use the class time to study for your In Cold Blood test instead of watching the movie.
Our test on In Cold Blood will be on Thursday. To prepare for the test, make sure you have read the book thoroughly and that you remember the main characters and what they do. The test will require you to match 40 possible characters to their actions in the book or to quotations from the book. The test will include 70 matching questions (Scantron) and one essay question.
For example, if I ask you who told his boss on the Sunday after the murders that a couple of rough-looking customers had come to the gas station the previous night, you must be able to provide James Spor’s name.
Advice
1 – Find a friend or friends and start making a list of characters and then identify them. Make a list (or at least review) important quotations. If you wrote character names in the margins of your book as I suggested when we first started reading, this part will be a breeze.
2 – After you have finished reading the book, read the book quickly a second time just by flipping through the book and re-reading the parts you have highlighted/underlined and by reading your notes in the margins.
3 – The test is not that difficult if you read the book thoroughly. If you read and understood the book, you could probably make a high "C" or low "B" on the test without reviewing anything. If you want to make a higher grade (and I hope you do), you will need to study.
