AP English Language Students 2008-2009

Posted in General on 26.05.08

Welcome to AP English Language!

Feel free during the summer to peruse this website in order to see what you will do in class next year. Under the "Pages" listed on the left, you will find a link to your Summer Reading. You might want to take a look at this soon.

If you need to contact me during the summer, please email me through the link on this page or you can reach me through Facebook. (I think I am currently the oldest Facebook member on the planet!) I have set up a Facebook Group for new AP English Language students. If you want to join, the link is located under "Links" on the left panel of this page. You may join this group regardless of whether you will take the course first or second semester.

In a couple of weeks after everyone has had a chance to relax, I will post more information about things you might want to do over the summer to prepare for the grueling college admissions process. For now, I’ll  simply recommend three things:

  • If you are planning on applying to highly competitive colleges, consider reading The Gatekeepers as your second summer reading selection for AP English Language. It will give you an inside view of the college admissions process.
  • One of the essays that you will write in AP English Language is an autobiography. (See link under "Pages.") This is an essay that you should be able to modify and use for many colleges that require applicants to submit essays. If you write it now when you have more time and less stress, you will probably write a better essay, and you will thank yourself in the fall. Yes, I will even read the essay, make suggestions, grade it, and even count it for your class assignment if you e-mail it to me this summer.
  • "This I Believe" (See link under "Pages.") is also an essay that you will write in AP English Language that will help you with college essays in the fall. Feel free to write it over the summer and e-mail it to me.

I look forward to meeting you and teaching you in the fall.
Have a great summer!

Take Care!

PLEASE send student comments EARLY

Posted in General on 04.05.08

If all of you wait until Friday to turn in your comments about other students, I will never be able to compile them to give to your classmates by the end of the semester. If you finish them early, please send them to my home e-mail:

EdieParrott@etcmail.com
